The icons on my taskbar (the one that shows running programs such as antivirus) are funky. Sometimes they appear when I boot up, sometimes not. In the properties listing, many of the programs listed under "Past Items" have the wrong icons. Programs where I've checked "display an icon on the taskbar" sometimes do and sometimes don't.
I know all about hiding taskbar icons, and I've used msconfig to manage the programs that automatically start on bootup. However, no matter what I do, it's impossible to predict what I'll get each time I boot up. Even such standard icons as the one for adding and removing hardware and the volume control come and go, seemingly at random.
Any idea what the problem is?
