Contraol Panel problem webtrain1 12/05/06
i have a Windows 98 SE back up pc. Everytime i start up my pc i get an error msg about Performing an Illegal Operation.

i tred going into Contraol Panel to restore IE but an err Performed an Illegal Operation prevents me from access. Safe Mode gives me the same errors.
I basically can't get into control Panel at all and ADD/REMOVE program.
Should i reinstall Win 98 SE?

      Hi (again)

      1. Win-key + R-Key (RUN)

      2. Type in field MSINFO32

      3. Click OK

      4. When started Select TOOLS/IE-repair

Note: If IE-repair doesn't exists, then it's due to the fact that You have a too early revision of IE...

      Hi Webtrain (1)

      You wrote in comments

I tried what you said. When I entered Control Panel, a similar msg appeared Performed Illegal Operation, different dll file shown. PS Installed IE 6, got the same error msg. What's left to do, reinstall Win 98?

It never reaches anyone if You post there

So if MSINFO32 doesn't solve the problem, then reinstall Win98

Start with an Install without doing anything else and see if that solves the problem then You don't lose anything, otherwise do a CLEAN install

IE Repair did not work. I guess I'll have to reinstall Windows 98 again.
      Thanks
