WinFixer Pop-Up Ads Ccl471 10/22/05
My sister's computer has this problem that appeared recently: we're getting Windows Dialog Boxes popping up like pop-up ads advertising WinFixer.

It happens almost every session of use on the computer:

First, a Dialog Box pops up and saying we need the product to scan and fix errors on the PC. I click Cancel, and then a few seconds later a second box pops up saying they are going to install the program on the computer. If I click OK, it would install it. There is no Cancel button.

I have to click on the "x" on the top right-hand corner of the Dialog Box to close it. It's very annoying.

How do I get rid of whatever WinFixer put on the hard drive that keeps giving us these ads?

By the way, my sister's computer has a 450 MHz P-III CPU and 128 MB of RAM. It uses Windows 98 (not Second Edition).

    Many thanks,

    C.L.

Winfixer is known spyware. An anti-spyware utility should clean it out. If not, Google WINFIXER for removal instructions.

Try running a FULL scan fron Trend Housecall.

      Here's a link:
      http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
      DELETE EVERYTHING THAT IT FINDS.
as well as antivirus they now offer a good anti spyware scan as well.

      Good luck

      Hi,
In my previous answer, I did say that trendmicro was give by another person in an answer, Curlyben. However, this person down-rated my answer to a 1; and it is completely out of Spite, Abuse, and Harassment. He has done this 3 times before, with no reason. He has been reported for Abuse to the Administration. Please disregard his unwanted actions, as they harm this site.
Curlyben rarely answers any questions...I think this answer was his 3rd !!!! He only logs in to Harass others.
Thank you, and I do wish you the best.

Howdy Fred, bitter as ever I see.

I tend not to answer questions for a number of reasons.
Mainly because as I'm not here for any ratings I post my answer as a follow up and not a rateable answer.
I also never answer questions that have been properly answered already.
      Hope this makes some sense.

The reason I down graded your answer Fred is because it's a complete echo of what has already been posted.
