On most days I am free of food obsession, my life has turned around, and Ive maintained a good weight loss through Overeaters Anonymous. People comment on the weight loss and ask how I did it.
I always tell them. They say its interesting, but they don ever try it. It doesn even cost anything (no dues), and its totally non-threatening (no weigh-ins, no judgments). What turns people away when I say Overeaters Anonymous? These people are still struggling with diets and weight loss schemes, and they
e bigger than ever. I never argue or promote, but I would think that seeing success would be an attraction. Any ideas on why this would be? Obesity is killing a lot of people, the doctors don know what to do to help, and OA seems to be the only group I know of that sees the addiction aspect, parallel to alcoholism. Can someone out there help me understand what the stigma would be in just TRYING a couple of meetings? Thanks! |
