Hi,
I eat a real light breakfast and have a normal lunch and dinner, but am overweight eating these meals a day. On the weekends I generally eat later at night around 9:00 PM due to my husband's work schedule. My meals throughout the day are a reasonable portion, not a hefty or large portion, but I am a good 50 lbs overweight. I appear to eat less now than in my 20s and I am hungry to eat my regular meals and I don't snack between meals. I've tried to limit my sweets, but I am still carrying extra weight. I am not a large eater and I don't understand why I've gained this quantity of weight. I never had a weight problem until I hit 30 and I always watched what I ate. I noticed around 30 that I was gaining on only eating a light breakfast, a salad for lunch, and a regular dinner. I had Grave's Disease in my 20s and I noticed my metabolism slowed after that. However, my tests show my thyroid to be functioning at a normal level. Could eating my meals late at night contribute to this weight gain, even though I only eat a regular portion meal and stay within three meals a day? They say an average woman should be able to eat 2000 calories a day, but I feel that my body needs much less than that. I am in my 40s now, and I feel that my body needs less than even 1500 calories a day they claim is needed to feed the resting metabolism. How many calories do you think a woman burns around 40? Would you say that most woman in their 40s need only 1700-1800 calories a day or even less and would that explain my 50 lb weight gain? Or do you think something else is going on? Thanks. |
Clarification/Follow-up by tarot10 on 06/07/05 3:35 pm: Hello
There may be other things causing you to gain weight i.e. lack of exercises, water retention. I also understand that sometimes the correct test to check the matobolism are not administered. I'll do some internet searches for you and see what I can find on what tests need to be administered.
Is there any reason why you cannot exercise? If not, start exercising with weights. Muscles take up less room than fat or water and you will start looking slimmer FAST! Muscles also burn calaries 24 hours a day. Hand held weights is all you need to see results fast. Check out Joyce Vedral's Bottoms Up. It's a great exercise program. You can go to the library and check out all of her other exercise books and put your own program together with her PICTURES. You can keep the pictures in front of you and turn the pages as you go. Check out half.com or amazon for used books or use your search engine using key word: used books.
Her program is easy to do because it will not cause you to get all tired and worn out, sore or all sweaty.
Also start drinking hot water. I lost 5 lbs immediately and later another 5 lbs for a total of at least 10 lbs drinking hot water. I couldn't handle the hot water for long but I continue to drink warm water and keep those 10 or more pounds off.
Eating constantly (fruit or veggies) keeps the metabolism working constantly.
Some people are not able to digest starches and carbs especially flour (whole grain or white). You might need to eat more protein than carbs or starches. Some people digest carbs better than proteins.
When I eat something made of flour, the following morning the scale does not go back to my usual weight. For example, if I eat a piece of bread on Monday, it will be Thursday before the scale goes back to its usual weight. Imagine what would happen if I eat a sadwich or hamburger EVERY day.
Let me know if you have any questions.
