MySpace Customizing JeffreyBryson 12/07/05
I assume that at least some of you know what MySpace.com is. I ask the following out of my extremely little experience with design and HTML. Music is an extremlely popular item on pages at that site, yet an individual is still subject to the relatively limited selection of song links on the web that can be pasted onto the editing area and played on the main page. Now, when a person pastes links to do that, those links are simply calling to other sites that happen to stream those songs- correct? Is there a way to have a personal online storage area for one's own mp3 files and be able to link them so that those links can be pasted at the site and played in the player there?

Scott to the rescue as usual. Yes, I suspected as much. Thankfully, the site doesn't restrict their links but allows for any link on the web.

So, as I expected I'm now to main matter of how to make those song files links on whatever server I'd store them. By the way, do you have any suggestions for cheap but sizeable storage?

You don't put them as links on YOUR server, you just upload them as files. Generally you FTP files to your your WEB space. So lets say you have space at bryson.com. You then have a folder called music. So you log in to bryson.com using FTP and upload mysong.mp3 to the music folder. To link to mysong you would use:

      A target=_new href="http://www.bryson.com/music/mysong.mp3"

Ah. Right. Of course. FTP is one thing I never learned much about because I never had a use for it . . . until now. Thanks, Scott. Of course, I'll follow up if I run into any problems.
