| Removing Carpeting BUching and humping. |

I have 3 year old carpeting in my home. It is not Berber but a low to medium pile. I have areas where the carpeting is rising up and looking atrocious. I was wondering what I can do to remove these unsightly humps/bumps/piles?
It and the padding was installed prior to moving in. The floor is sound, the tackless in new, the furniture has not been moved. The dimensions of the room are 25 x 50. All open and no walls in the middle. We use no rolling furniture. Nor do we move heavy items around the room. I have small children that play with their toys in the room, but not to the degree of pulling/bunching that I am experiencing.
The location of the main concern is in the heavy traffic area, where we move mostly from the kitchen to the living room / dining room.
Maybe not necessary, but information for answer anyway: Forced Hot air fed from vents in the baseboard located around the perimeter of the room. No major discoloration or damage that would necessitate removal and replacement of the carpeting. Proper maintenance and care with yearly steam cleaning. (No noticeable changes after the service calls.) No major spills or other water damage. We do not use the large fireplace that is in the room.
Is there any measure that I can take to remedy this situation myself? Should I go to the Big Box store and get a carpet kicker and tighten it down myself? What are the drawbacks for me doing it to only remove the bunching? Any other information regarding this matte is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all your help.
