Crying for help from a Catholic University Help! I studied in University in Ukraine. It was medium-hard workload with a lot of freedom. We could write our assignments as we wanted to, we could joke with teachers, could ask them when we had questions etc. I immigrated in USA and entered a private catholic university and after stydying here a week and became to feel kinda chained, in strict limits. It is like a nazi rule here. It is expansive university with a lot of good stuff, but I dont feel free, there are so many rules. Check for example syllabi on writing home assignment: "When using lined paper, use the lines. That is, write on top of the lines, not on them. Draw illustrations legibly! Make sure so that magnifying glasses are not requred. Use only one side of a piece of paper. Staple all papers together in the upper left-hand corner into precisely one bundle. Failure to fasten your assignment will result in 5% deduction on the entire assignment. Do not use red anywhere on the assignment - Automatic 15% deduction on the entire assignment." I have never seen such requirements in my Univerity in Ukraine. It is so new to me. Can you tell me if other USA universities are so strict or is it just catholic ones or private ones, or maybe if it is catholic and private it becomes double strict, because catholicism are well known to be a very strict religion (priests cannot have sex, no sex before marriage, no abortions, inquizition in the past etc)??? |
