| Google IPO - how does this make them so much richer? |

As someone not too knowledgeable about the stock market, I have the following question. It has been reported in the news that dozens of Google.com employees will become instant millionaires when they complete their IPO, i.e., selling about 2.7 billion dollars worth of the company (valued at 20 billion dollars I believe?) to the public.
How does this make Google's employees and current private owners so much richer than before? If they are selling 2.7 billion of a 20 billion dollar company, shouldn't the private owner's be billionaires anyway? Moreover, since the company Google hasn't really changed other than raising 2.7 billion in equity, how does this make Google so much richer a company? |
