The Space Shuttle taking off... denberg 01/15/05
    Hi!

You know when the shuttle blasts off, as soon as it clears the tower it rolls through about 150 degrees. Why?

    Thanks,

    Paul.

Thanks but I'm still unclear as to why exactly it does roll - what would happen if it didn't?

      Thanks again,

      Paul.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Are you asking what would happen to the shuttle physically? Or what would happen to its trajectory if it didn't roll?
The rolling has to do with the flight path that it is intended to follow into space. It is a programmed roll, to help navigate into space, and to ensure that the wings are level during ascent.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean...See if the above helped. If not, let me know.

      Kyle

I mean what would happen to its trajectory if it didn't roll.

      Thanks,

      Paul.
