using Audacity superqaz 08/19/07
    Hi
    Using Audacity I want to separate a background sound [constant, fast, electronic clicking] from the speech which is on top. Both sounds last for 25 min. I want to end up with an hour or so of the clicking sound on its own, with little or no evidence of sections being joined.

    Alternatively can I do this by duplicating a [20 second is the longest piece] selection of the clicking sound where there is no speech present and joining them up.

    Can anyone help

    Thanx

      hi Jim,
      thanx u seem to be very knowledgable on the subject. may i have more clarification on the paragragh below. are u saying that when i extract the selection i can somehow make it the same length as the original clip [is the clip the entire recording ?] that would indeed be a very clever thing to do.

      i did manage to duplicate a 20 second piece with no speech but couldnt find a way to join them. as uv'e guessed i havent used audio editing before yesterday

      you said:
      " with precisely the same runtime as your original clip and duplicate that as many times as needed to fill out the required duration."

      Duplicating is just a matter of selecting the section you want to repeat, copying it to a new track, and paste, paste, paste. It's been a couple of years since I last used Audacity, so I don't know the menu-by-menu instructions to give you. Play with it for while, you'll be able to do it.
