Hi all,
Let me break the ice here and hopefully get some opinions on an issue that has troubled me for many years.
I work with drug addicts and alcoholics in my spare time and have learned a lot about the prison system in Michigan. It is pretty devastating. I don't know about other states. For one thing, there is no separation for age or crime type. In other words a young man who has shoplifted a few times too many to pay for his drug habit, can and often does end up sharing a cell with a hardened old timer who may be a murderer or rapist.
I see most young drug users as people who can't deal with the pain of reality anyway, and now they'll have even more severe pain to deal with. What it would do in my opinion is create a sociopath from an oversensitive personality. Doesn't that seem to be going to extremes? Is there any way around this? Thanks for your thoughts. All are welcomed. |
