The Cubs of soccer SanchoPanza 09/17/04
I guess that this will not come out in question form but I've noticed the phenomemun of the Cubs and thought it was similar to the FOOTBALL team I have most of my life.

This year is Chelsea's centenery, founded in 1905 they have the distinction of being the only team to have joined the football league before they ever played a game. They were first known as the pensioners, after the famous retirement home for old solldiers nearbye, their constant position just outside contention for anything made them something of a joke and there was even a musichall song "The Day That Chelsea Won The Cup" Of course I had no idea of this when as an innocent nine year old I saw them take their rightfull place in the cup final of 1967 only to see them beaten by Tottenham and their star striker former Chelsea discovery Jimmy Greaves. Previously they had made it to the 191 final and lostt and had won the Football league in at their 50th attempt in 1955 holding the record for the LOWEST number of points for a championship season. The sixties and early seventies were a golden age for Chelsea both he team and the trendy area around it, attracting all kinds of high profile fans and finally the FA cup and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1970 and 1971. Then a badly timed investment in rebuilding a modern ground nearly bankrupted them and within five years they had a team patched up with teenage boys as the money to pay for top players was eaten away paying off debts.
Success came struggling through after a series of high profile managers brought in some great players who still had a few years left in their legs and Ruud Hullit Zola and Vialli replaced some of the donkeys that had grazed on the pitch.
Now we have a billionaire owner and a team worth between 130-150 million and again it's 50 years since that only league championship. Can it be Chelsea's year again? I guess that might be up to Arsenal.
