I have a very small modest, part-time, at-home local-only service business that I started almost 3 yrs ago. I got calls from DUN & BRADSTREET several times about registering with them, and them urging me to signed up with them immediately, and to pay up front via credit card of $400.00 through the phone. Just like that. And how am I suppose to trust them anyway?
I was wondering is signing up with them mandatory by law? They told me about all this benefits of having a business credit account, that I need it to do business with just about any company and suppliers.
I hardly do any adverstising, other than car windows fliers and through word-of-mouth. I have no big expenses, I'm the only owner and employee. In fact, I made only $2,000 each yr., and have more expenses than profits.
They say there are alot of companies that are looking me up, except I don't have their so-called DUNS #.
So, is it true that businesses of all sizes should get a DUNS #, even it is not mandatory by law, or should I NOT get it if it's not mandatory, and since I do most of my businesses through cash anyway?
