Sewing term question jpollardsmith 07/12/07
    Hello,

I'm 41 and I live in Arizona. I'm sort of an advanced beginner with respect to sewing.

Sometimes I have a rough edge on a fabric that looks like it will fray. And I use a stitch near that edge to go over it and prevent it from fraying.

My question is, what does one call a stitch that goes over the edge like that? And also what is the verb used to describe the act of making that stitch?

I think it's called an "overlock" stitch and the verb is "to overlock" a fabric's edge, but I'm not sure.

    Thank you,

    John
