Question: A few years ago I picked up a short novel in a library of the building I was working in at the time. It was written (at least I seem to recall) by a fairly well known science fiction writer (I was thinking Poul Anderson, but I may be way off); I'm guessing the book was pre 1980's or roundabout. It was science fiction/fantasy about a mysterious being who wandered the land quietly granting people's wishes. The results of the wishes always destroyed those who did the wishing. The being would always say something like "as you wish so it shall be." I'd describe the being as a "personification of death" for lack of a better term. Are you familiar with this book and who wrote it? |
