It has been said that in the dark shadow of a personal loss such as that of a lifelong partner, poetry truly conveys the feelings of the heart, and so it was in a Columbarium Chapel many years ago.
THE SILENCE
With time unheeding, the silence in the Chapel dwells, and sparkles the dust ever dancing in sunlit air to disappear as rays move on, with day unfolding, and cool shadows take the place of amber glare.
The Book of Remembrance tells of love and sadness, with messages of sorrow, and virtues that were known. The opened page and its day which in a bygone year knew pain and loss, there a precious link was shown
A beam of light crossing floor and pew, settles now on gleaming brass and shining glass, to light the urn where in her niche, her ashes lie enshrined in bronze and there the sad flame of memory will always burn.
So I leave this place of rest, with still its silence Through Chapel door I hesitate, hoping for a sound. Whispers: "Leave this place for here I am but dust. Remember, I lived and joy and love were found". |
