Washing machine drain backs up and smells schultz1503 03/04/07
The problem Im having is since I bought my home a year ago Im having the same problem. When I use my kitchen sink for a long period or dump too much too fast down the drain the water over flows down stairs in the basement behind the washers drain tube.We dont have any back up water coming up in the kitchen sink and we can use it normally but cant have the water run to long or too fast. We have resulted in running the drian hose from the washer to the laundry room sink which that drain doesnt connect to the washer drain. Thats the only way we can drain the washers water in spin cycle,we attached a additional hose so it can reach that sink. Its so dam ghetto but have no choice. I tried running a snake from the kitchen sink upstairs and attached it to my drill and ran it down all the way it can go, all I see on the snake is smelly black gunt. I also ran the snake from the drainage pvc pipe from the back of the washer, but no good. the way the piping is made up behind the washer after i removed the wood paneling is one pipe coming down from upstairs from the kitchen sink as it comes to a end it angles to the right about 6 inches to a wider pipe which goes straight down and straight up to the roof. The bottom part of that wide pipe also has this one piece that sticks out right to me horizontally and it ends like 6 inches and has a metal cap on it.In the middle of all this is when the pvc pipe begins it goes right 5 inches then there is a 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe that goes straight up 2 feet with a black air vent cap on it. Then back at the base of the pvc pipe it continues on for 6 inches it turns into a u shape and then up 2 1/2 feet to a opening where your suppose to insert the washing machine drain hose and that is where all the water comes out of, onto the floor tons of it. I have used everything drano and clog liquids. I have recently used some stuff from Loews called sulfric acid I poured it down the kitchen sink its all black liquid that burns if on skin. I let it pour down and waited 15 minutes flushed with real hot water. Now I use my central air heat and my house smells like rotten eggs! Please need help what can I do ? thank you
