opossums Harmonyhill 03/11/03
Today my dog and I found an opossum out in the woods. This isn't the first one. The first one the dog actually caught before I could stop him and I thought he killed it but it was just pretending. I guess it was okay because on our way back from our hunt, the opossum got up and ran away to safty.

This time the little opossum was under a leafless bush trying to be really still so we wouldn't see it but the dog doesn't miss much.....

I keep a heavy metal pronged choke collar on him, otherwise the animals of the woods would not stand a chance.

I worry about the day he comes face to face with a raccoon. He already goes up the trees after the squirrels but it is the coons he's hunting. I know it now because of the tracks he follows.

Anyway, my question is about the opossums. Now I know what those weird tracks in the snow are, the ones that look like a tail is dragging along like a snake behind the paw prints. Those must be the opossums.

Today the officials in charge of such matters issued a suburban coyote alert. I've been seeing them for 3 years now, but now there are so many I guess they are getting some in the neighborhoods too.

But still, I'm wondering now, what kind of a menace will the opossums be to my garden?

    Thanks,
    Harmonyhill
