dos prompt webtrain1 10/31/06
How can i get a DOS prompt to scan my hard drive for errors? (Startup problems).

Is there a small program that i can boot up to for checking a HARD DRIVE FOR ERRORS And fixing them?

Actually i have a pc using Windoes 2000 Professional. What i did try is, i copied Win 2000 Pro boot files onto a cd. Then i started up the pc with the cd, only to get an error msg that i have been getting that has prevented me from getting the pc to start up normally.

error at startup-- STOP (bunch of strange characters) boot device error.

I checked the drive connections, cables. This is why i want to get the prompt.

Last Know failed, Safe mode, failed, always this same message.

So how can i get a prompt or run boot files on Win 2K Pro?

So I'm not familiar with if there is a possibility to make a startupdiskette for that OS or what startupfiles is needed...
