In a vaccuum rosends 05/18/03
There have been 4 attacks against Israel and its citizens within the last 24 hours. I saw a spokesman for the nominal "Palestinian people" who said "These things don't happen in a vaccuum." That got me thinking. Here it was, just hours after high level meetings with the goal to advance a roadmap heared to advance the cause of a separate state for the Palestinians -- TO END THE "OCCUPATION". The condition? STOP THE VIOLENCE. So to immediately pursue violence says to me that those involved parties are NOT INTERESTED in ending any occupation.

The logic speaks for itself. There was no preceding event which has fanned any flames recently -- in effect, the actions are, indeed, in a vaccuum. To cite "long lasting oppression" would then justify an African American or native American's bombing a pizza parlor today, or a Jew's bombing the Greek consulate, the Spanish monarchy, a German factory or a Mosque -- all because there is a history of oppression. Maybe those who try to separate the cases would say that the constant state of oppression RIGHT NOW justifies randomly timed attacks. Fine, then. I am constantly oppressed by neo-nazis who promote evil. My family in Israel is constantly oppressed by the terrorism. The unemployed guy is constantly oppressed by a political philosophy which has not helped the economy improve. The people in the slums and projects are constantly oppressed by an economic system which stifles their future. Therefore, everyone should pursue violent means to change the oppression.

    Yeah. That makes sense.

A roadmap is of little value until and unless the travelers agree on the destination.
