You are a participant in a war game simulation. Your instructor has tasked you to help decide how many infantry platoons of soldiers, piloted aircraft, and manned gun ships to deploy in an upcoming exercise. You have on hand, already paid for, the following resources: 1,000 Soldiers who are trained to be in infantry platoons 10 Airplanes 5 Trained pilots for these airplanes 1,000 Sailors trained to serve on gun ships
Each infantry platoon consists of 20 soldiers and requires one army officer. These army officers must be hired for $1,000. One army officer must be hired for each platoon you deploy. Extra soldiers may be hired for $500 each.
Each airplane you send must be manned by three pilots. You may hire extra pilots for $3,000. You may buy extra airplanes for $100,000 each.
Each gunship you send must have 100 sailors and 5 naval officers. You may hire naval officers for $2,500 each and extra sailors for $500 each. Extra gun ships may be bought for $250,000 each.
For every platoon deployed, you must also send one airplane with its three pilots. For every 10 platoons, you must send one gunship and its complement of sailors and naval officers. One gun ship can support 10 to 19 platoons, two gun ships can support 20 to 29 platoons, etc.
Each infantry platoon you send yields 1 unit of effectiveness in potential combat. Each airplane you send yields 5 units of effectiveness in potential combat. Each gunship you send yields 10 units of effectiveness in potential combat.
You must send enough platoons, planes and ships to yield 300 units of effectiveness for the upcoming exercise.
Formulate a linear program in standard notation to find the minimum cost of the group of forces you must send in order to achieve the required effectiveness
