how about Augustinus? Junya 10/05/07
It seems that philosophical writings in Latin can't be understood by Latin experts unless the expert is familiar with the philosophical writings. So you don't understand such passages as I have sent.

Then how about Augustinus? Can I ask you to help me read his writings? I heard his Latin is good, a classic Roman language. I have not read Augustinus much even in Japanese and English, though. Why Augustine? I want to read something connected to medieval philosophy, and I'm not much interested in other genres like Ovid, Virgil.

      Hi,

could you kindly post your questions about Latin texts?

      I didn't mean anything ill.
I just understood in communicating with you that even those who knows Latin well can't understand philosophical writings in Latin unless they have read about the philosophy of the relevent period. And that is well in accordance with what you say.
      There is no ill will.

Do you have friends who are learning Japanese? I think I can teach something, although it might be difficult to teach not knowing the grammatical terms of Japanese grammar for English or Italian-speaking people, which I don't know.

Oh, then there is no problem. Show me anything of your reading and understanding of the text. Only hints will suffice. I want hints. It is ok you are not well confident about your reading, being unconfident because of not having read the whole story. I just want to be helped by people who know Latin much better than I.
