What does this word mean? kindj 09/26/06
Concerning the plagues in Egypt in Exodus, what does the word "herem" mean? I think I spelled it correctly. Does it have any implications for modern society?

Can you give me a biblical citation? I know what the word herem means, but I'm not sure how it applies to the Exodus story. So before I give you an answer, I want to check the context.

It's part of an essay I've been assigned. I don't have the question right in front of me, but it reads sorta like this: "Explain the theological significance of each of the plagues. something-something-something about the word "herem" and how such a concept might be received by modern society.

I'll see if I can get down to my car at lunch and get the full question, if that'll help.
