Church Building Bishop_Chuck 05/21/05
I have a question about something that happened this week. We operate a music school and have one student who is Jehovah Witnesses.

We hold a yearly recital where students perform and awards are given out.

This year we rented a local Methodist Church since they have room, host the reception after and have a both electric and standard piano for us to use.

There is no other buildings in the area that we know of that have have a piano and seating in our small town.

When we used to have the studio in a larger city, we had alot of options, but in our town of less than 10,000 there is almost no choices.

The student who is Jehovah Witness was not allowed to attend because it is in another churches building.
We asked the student about using thier building if this was an issue but was told they don't let it be used for other purpose. ( We are ok with that, since other churches also did not wish to rent out for a recital)

There was no prayer, no preaching and no religious tone to the recital.

I am just interested in what sort of church rule or rules that stop a member of the Jehovah Witness from even entering into the church building of another church ( even for non church activites)

I am not trying to argue, I really just want to know, since we try hard to allow our students perform and to give them awards, but we see no chance of change in our program in the future since there is little choice of locations.

Yes, we just could not understand, since no one was even mentioning religion, the "front" area is not used, merely the seating area and the piano and PA system.

Plus the eating area in the basement for snacks and the such.

I could understand ( somewhat) if there was any church activities, but in this case, it is just a rented building that we rent for the day.

Of course the students are not required to attend the recitial for lessons. They just miss public performing and reciving awards for thier work.

Also what was more confusing, it appeared, the local JW here do not make thier building available for this type of usage either.

It is not just your "Local JW" who do not make their "biulding available", no Kingdom Hall anywhere in the world is used for anything other than reliigous purposes.

That young lads parents have made a decision based on THEIR concience, another Witness family may well have seen nothing wrong in using the church biulding.

      all the best
