Thermostat Setting problem tmvijai 06/27/06
    Hello

I live in 2 story 2 year old single family home. Each floor has seperate thermostat and I set them as 78 and 84 in the day time. But its not maintaining that temperature during peak hot times 12-4pm. Its going to 80 and 89. Why is that happening ? is it because the air is not cold enough ? I just changed the filters ? I got very high bills with unit running all day.. Please help me with a solution..

      Labman,

Thanks for the fast response. As I mentioned in the first line, its a 2 year old new house. Its no longer covered under the warranty. I live in Houston, Tx. I tried to check with builder HVAC subcontractor and they said its no longer covered. Thats why I am trying to find a way to see whether there is something wrong and I need to get it inspected..

As I said, if it worked OK last summer and not this, something has gone wrong. There isn't too much you can do except make sure the air is circulating. There is a fan on the outside unit. It should run when the unit runs. If it isn't running, it is something you can fix yourself. Otherwise, there isn't too much else except choose a repairman.

The outside fan(compressor) is runing is fine when the a/c runs. It was not running properly and I called the repairman. He checked and filled the freon. Its started to run fine but after sometime its not cooling well.. I think i need to call maintenance folks to check it out..

      Thanks for the answers..
