| Need help on 3d Studio max R3 |

hi guys!
This may sound silly but how do i get rid of axis restriction in 3d studio max r3.
What i mean is that i can't get rid of the axis ristriction and now i can't use transformation tools with ease. I first have to select an axis (or set of axises) on the above toolbar before doing any kind of transformations.
Hope i made my self clear.
