Question Details Asked By Asked On
gifted children

I have an educational psychology class in which I should show some scripts of the movie "Seaching for Bobby FIscher" and talk about gifted and talented children. My two other partners and I have chosen several scripts from the movie. I liked the script when the main character Josh Waitzkin (played by Max Pomeranc) is competeing (playing chess) with other kids, and one kid is running back and forward letting the parents know of every move their kids do. It shows how much parents are concerned about their kid's sucess.
It is a good and funny script but I don't have much to talk about this parents overconcern of their children. Can you help me by giving me some ideas so that I be able to talk for at least 2-3 minutes.

If you have seen the movie, can you think of any other script which is more related to gifted and talented kids.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks

Thanks for letting me know of other options, but our class instructor has only given us a limited number of movies. The movie that my partners and I have signed up is "Searching for Bobby Fischer."

Sorry, I misread your question. How about talking about the parent(s) pushing their son too hard. Or does the son really want to pursue chess? Is this normal for a child of his age to be doing "adult things", or could he be doing other things children his age do? Is there too much presure for him to conform or fall into a perfectionist attitude? Is he pushed too hard? Is it fun for the child or not?

      Regards,

Oh and another thing. How does his friends perceive him? Is he treated as an equal or treated as some kind of outcast because he is a genius at chess. How do adults see him? How does he see himself? And what is a child gifted child anyway? Make sure you know the definition of gifted child, genius, prodigy etc.
