| Gun Powder Residue |

Hi,
I have been doing some research for a school project involving the removal of gun powder residue from clothing. Many of the sites state that gun powder is water soluable and most of it can be removed when laundered. I was wondering if dry cleaning would remove gun powder residue because the chemicals used to wash the clothes is not water based. How effective is it compared to a regular washing machine? |
Clarification/Follow-up by morgendorffer on 07/12/03 4:57 pm: I found out that the process of drycleaning is similar to a regular washing machine. The clothes are placed in a front load washing machine that has a metal rotating perforated stainless steel basket. The clothes are immersed in perchlorethylene, the solvent used in dry cleaning, and then are gently dropped and pounded against baffles. After that process, hot air is used to dry the clothes. If perchlorethylene is 75% heavier than water, and the washing process is similar, wouldn't dry cleaning be more effective. I understand that the question is very general because of all the variables but your insight would be very helpful.
