Rhododendron Ramblings bluto 05/20/05
Hi experts. I have a newly planted (from about Oct 2004) rhododendron (white), by itself, near my house.

I can't say I noticed this right away, but for the majority of its life there the leaves have been turning brown at the tips and edges, and as the brown progresses it then looks like there is some kind of white'ish stuff, almost like mold growing, but only on the brown parts.

Any ideas as to what this is, and what I might do about it?

I have started removing these brown leaves, wondering if it would be detrimental to the plant (which is only about 20"-24" tall). I have been doing this for several weeks now, little by little. I did not want to do too many at once, and now there seems to be brand new leaves coming out all over, but I'm wondering if these will also suffer the same fate as the current leaves.

I'm wondering also if this is possibly a natural life cycle of this plant? I tend to think it is not, but wanted to know what the experts have to say about it.

This plant gets morning and early afternoon sun. I have been watering it as best I can when there seems to be a lack of rain. It isn't planted in the best of soil, but other plant near it seem to be doing ok.

    Thanks for listening! :)

Well, there is no cat around, using the peat as a toilet? I really don't know. Its so difficult without seeing the plant!
I hope the next young leaves wil grow normal and lets wait for that!
      Greetings!

Interesting comments......no cat......and no 'rest area' uses either. I just thought the description I gave originally might strike someone as some classic symptom of something. But apparently it is not and is a specific symptom caused by the unknown.

      Thanks
