| Paying Property Taxes through your Mortgage Co. |

In your opinion, does it make a difference whether you pay your mortage and property taxes separately or just to my mortgage co.?
My property taxes, have just recently doubled. Someone said it would be less taxing just to pay them separately because they say when you pay your property taxes through your mortgage co., money can end up in your escrow account, and they will refund you from hundreds to some thousands of dollars.
Your opinion, info, or tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |
Clarification/Follow-up by sallie00 on 12/31/07 10:09 am: Do you think there's any concern that the mortgage co. could be making mistakes and charging you too much money for the property taxes and house insurance, and I could be losing money that way.
Thanks in advance.
Clarification/Follow-up by CeeBee2 on 12/31/07 1:58 pm: No. I've never had that concern. The amounts are itemized on the mortgage payment, so it would be easy to check up on the mortgage lender by calling the ins. co. and the county tax people. The lender is required by law to notify you of any changes in the amounts.
