Manager/Employee ethics |

Manager/Employee ethics ---- I worked as a software developer for an internet company and I was unexperienced in Management/Employee ethics, so I behaved as I thought I should behave, like managers are lords and I am a servant, I mean I did everything what they asked me to do and didnt question anything. When I didnt like to do something I thought that if I say it to my manager, he will tell me "If you dont like something, you could find another company, I am manager I do whatever I want to do, you are just another worker", you know? But later I read in a book, that when doing some software project, all members of a team are equal, they are just doing their functions. When an important decisions whould be made, everyone should be present and have right to propose ideas, managers just coordinate everything. I work now as a worker in another copmany and not sure I feel like I am equal. I felt like a servant there and feel as one here. So I ask you to tell me what type of relationships there should be with managers and workers, are they really a team or is there a hierarchy like in army, where workers have to do everything managers say? What level of freedom workers have? Is it possible that some managers misunderstand what management means and behave like lords? Here are the examples of why I feel like this:
On my software development position:
- my manager frequently went silently to my cubicle and quickly checked what I am doing at my computer, whether I work or play games. It was so stupid, like I gonna play at work or something. He also sat near me and instead of clicking that button that minimize all applications or chosing the one he is interested, he closed every application window and looked carefully what was there, like I could do some kind of illegal work or smth :) - When there was a meeting, my manager told another worker that he could leave the room if he continues to give feedback in such negative tones, when the worker told that that could not be done and another thing cannot be done. The worker then left the company because he told he didnt like the management. - My manager promised me cool projects to make me stay in the company when I wanted to leave it, but after 1 year there was no any interesting projects and even worse, I become doing stuff I didnt like and manager knew I dind like it. - Management lied to a client company that the project X was developed in our company for our company needs, rather then being developed for the client company, because they wanted to use X for their own needs also (I developed X :)). I dint like it, but thought it was Ok in business world to lie. Was it Ok? What would happen if I tell the client company about this? - I asked a women manager to go out and she refused and told me that it was not appropriate for me to do this, because she is a manager of 100+ people in 10+ countires. So I think I was 0 to her, since I managed 0 people in 0 countries. Was she right in her reasoning? - I mentioned to my manager what I liked to do and what I didnt, so he could give me tasks I like to do, but I didnt notice any change in what I did, I even was forced to do what I didnt like. - My coworkers and some of managers called me lazy, others told me that they would beat me with a beat and put me into trash head down. I think they tried to motivate me, but I am not sure it is an ethical motivation.
In my present company: - Managers always going everywhere and checking if everyone works, give them a whip in hand and the picture would be perfect. - I mentioned what I liked to do and what dont, but they didnt pay attention to it. - Nobody cares about work environment, chairs are uncomfortable, dust and dirt everywhere. - They lay off me for 1-2 weeks sometimes if there is no work, even I worked more then others temps working there.
