Question Details Asked By Asked On
Responsible Parties USstudent244 11/20/03
    Hello:

I’m back with another question regarding political parties. I have about four questions for you, but if you don’t mind I would prefer to ask one question at a time. This way would provide better comprhensive responses and less confusion on my behalf.

I have been reading various books and found that a variety of observers of American politics have complained that the United States does not have responsible parties. When I speak of responsible parties I am referring to:

“A cohesive disciplined group of people that have very different policies issues that act together as a team.”

So, my FIRST question is Mr. HADDOCK, CAn you tell me what aspects of the American setting, American institutions, and American history have served as barriers to the establishment of responsible parties in the Unites States?
