| What is forensic about forensic phytoremediation? |

Dear Experts:
I would like to know why forensic phytoremediation is called forensic. From what I've been able to gather through google.com, forensic phytoremediation deals with the study of a naturally revegetated site to establish that remediation has occurred or has begun to occur. So basically, it's naturally occurring phytoremediation. How come it's called "forensic"? "Forensic" means "of, used in, courts of law" and is strongly suggestive of things like forensic medicine---"medical knowledge as needed in legal enquiries." Why is it used with reference to phytoremediation?
I am a non-native English speaker and would appreciate a reply from a native-English-speaking environmental scientist.
Thank you very much. Regards,
Dmitry |
