Global heating and global dimming freethinker 02/16/05
I don't see here any post about global dimming.
Is anybody here interested into a debate about (reducing the effects of) global dimming ?
Global dimming : up to 20% of all sunlight is reflected in the higher atmosphere by a layer of dust and soot particles (pollution).
As a result less sunlight is reaching the lower atmosphere, which means that it opposes the effects of global warming.
    Nice, you could say.
But global dimming also has a very negative effect : it reduces part of the actual sunlight to reach the crops, and at many places in the world harvests are reduced considerably, specially in the tropics.
And in the tropics we have already a lot of problems with starvation, with failing crops.

If we reduce global dimming, the earth will have much more problems with global heating, and we may run the global weather system out of control.
If we maintain or increase global dimming, failing crops and starvation in the tropics will continue, with millions of victims yearly.

    A true dilemma.

    Anyone?
