In 1998, my best friend told me that a friend he met in high school was now building generic desktop pcs from parts he bought wholesale, and auctioning them off on eBay. He said this guy was making $80,000 a year doing this.
I'm wondering: is this method of making a living still possible? Or have things changed enough on eBay that this would no longer be a viable business opportunity? Like if the competition there is now too stiff that a novice starting out doing this would not be able to succeed?
