Copyright infringement without copying? gamerguy 07/28/06
    Hi,
I'd like to write an new emulator to play Nintendo games on my computer. I am trying to mimic a current emulator that I already have, but I have not looked at the source code of the pre-existing emulator. I've just looked at the documentation of the pre-existing emulator, so that my emulator will accept current nintendo .mod files. I've also used the emulator to see how it works. Can I get in trouble for copyright infringement since I haven't actually copied anything? I have the other emulator legally. Do you know of any cases that are similar to this, so I can check them out? Also, I have no intention of reverse engineering to software, either. I'm just doing this based on the paperwork and what I see on the screen as I use the product. Are there any cases where people do that just that - no reverse engineering and make their own version?

    Thanks.
