| Newspaper Article Reproduction w/ Source |

Hi.
I'm wondering if it's considered a copyright violation, illegal, wrong, whatever to reproduce an article on another site.
Let me provide a little more info. I'd like to reproduce some articles on a website I run, cuz eventually the article will expire and access will be no more or restricted.
If I do this, I will copy it in its entirety and not alter it. I will provide all the details given on the orginal article and a link to the original article. It will be used only or primarily for making people aware of the incident/news, not even for commenting upon it in any way. The intended purposes would basically fall under 'Fair Use' of the copyright laws as it would be for making people aware of it and for non-profit, educational purposes, etc. I just don't know about how the 'Fair Use' copyright laws work in reference to newspapers and the like, the rest of the site has had the 'Fair Use' applied to it as well.
I've been to the www.copyright.gov website, but i'm still not sure about newspapers and the like / articles written by several individuals. though, i've seen this done on numerous other sites, i just want to make sure what the actual rules, etc. are in reference to this.
Thanks much. |
Clarification/Follow-up by Bradd on 08/14/04 5:42 am: Btw, there is nothing to prevent you from contacting the copyright holder and ASKING to reprint it (without paying for the right). They may approve of your non-profit mission, and/or may welcome the wider dissemination of the work. If so, the usual condition is only that you include the notice of copyright in your reprint.
