Argument excon 12/28/05

    Hello labman:

Why won't you argue your points with me? Just telling me that I'm wrong doesn't cut it. Until you offer cogent arguments for your positions, your complaints that I'm wrong fall on deaf ears. It doesn't score you any points, and you can't win anything, no less an argument, without points. All you sound like then, is Bill O'Reilly, which is probably where you get all your news.

I like arguing politics. That's how I learn about it. It's very personal with me, but I don't dislike any of those who disagree with - even Elliot, who very loudly disagrees with me.

I'd love to take you on. Argue with me. Tell me why you think the way you do. Try to convince me that that's the right way. I promise I'll listen, and I'll try to convince you otherwise.

But just saying I'm wrong doesn't have any depth. It doesn't convince anybody. Let me say that again, IT DOESN’T CONVINCE ANYBODY. It doesn't allow me to respond with anything other than, no I'm not wrong. Those kind of political discussions go nowhere.

Frankly, I think we've grown so polarized in this country, that nobody ever hears anyone else. I'm trying to bridge that gap. So, please don't talk AT me - talk WITH me.

I'm not asking you to like me, only that you talk to me. But, until you actually counter my arguments, I will always prevail over you.

    excon
