Installing pilings for home deck DILLIGAS 11/13/04
I have a home in Southern NJ that sits on an old Marl (Clay/stone) pit.

The previous homeowners had a company install a deck/pier 30 years ago. When I purchased the home in 99 I removed the deck because it was in a state of extreme decay and was a safety hazard.

I would like to install a new deck, but have to place new pilings in the pond before doing so.

The water where this will be installed is 2 to 6 feet deep. The size of the deck can be from 15 W x 20 L greater or smaller, no problems.

To get the machinery in to do the job would take out a lot of trees, and destroy the lawn, garden, and other things that I have been working on for many years.

I have access to the site from the land, and can work from the bucket of a front end loader that I own. The rise up the small hill is no greater than 4 feet, and the slope is 60 degrees to the waterline.

Where can I find information about installing the pilings myself? Either by hand with a sledge or with a pneumatic or hydraulic device?

    Thanks

    DILLIGAS

      Clarification/Follow-up by DILLIGAS on 11/16/04 11:54 am:

I am guessing that I would have to go at least 6 to 8 feet in to get the stability that I would like to.

The pilings themselves will probably be pilings form a marine shop or telephone poles.

      Thanks,

      DILLIGAS
