Game plan: tile floor in kitchen Currently the floor has sheet vinyl. I would like to tile it. The cabinets are of very low quality and the cut out for the dishwasher is nominal at best. If I build up the floor from 3/4 to the recommended 1 1/8 I won't have the clearance for the dishwasher (right now from the top of the vinyl to the bottom of the counter top is 34 1/2. If I add at least 5/8 substrate and the tile, I'm not sure if I'll get the dishwasher back in place. If I unscrew the lower cabinets from the wall at shim them up (or remove them all together and lay the substrate underneath this will rectify that problem).
Another problem arises if I decide to tile the counter top. Presently I have the standard 18 from the top of the counter top to the bottom of the upper cabinets. If I tile the counter top and raise the lower cabinets (to give me the needed clearance to get my dishwasher back in)I'll be down to a space of a little more then 16 inches (approximate).
What is 'acceptable' in this case? What would give me the best out come? Any and all suggestions and help would be appreciated.
Thanx, Andy |
