I am considering starting a charity (in California) and was wondering if anyone could help me with some information. I'm just one person and don't really have the resources required to start a 501c3 tax exempt charity. What I would like to know is if there are any legal issues regarding an individual starting up their own non-501c3 charity? Can just a single person do it by themselves? Can they solicit donations? I basically want to know these and any other rules or regulations I would need to follow. If anyone knows the answers to these questions (or where I could find the answers) please let me know. Thanks a lot.
