Level of involvement for programmers --- I work as a programmer and wonder what level of involvement should I have in projects. I mean, my boss always tells me to do this and that program, he checks my progress etc, and I feel like a slave. I want to say somthing like "Why should i do this program" or "Can you show me the requrements that Microsoft gave you for this program", not just "sure", "ok", "no problem". One time I said "ok, i'll try to do this" and my friend/senior developer told that it is better to say "I will do this" rather then I will try, because I want to create a good impression. I remember I wrote a big program for Microsoft as part of the team and my boss even didnt show me the requirements for the project nor gave me eenough documentation, just gave me the minimum. It was difficult to do it, because I didn;t imagine a big picture, I just did small parts which was difficult to tie to something reasonable. Is it acceptable to ask more questions and be interested in projects in more details? Is it ok to ask questions to my boss like "Why do you want to do this", "I think we can do it better like this, not as you ask me to do", "It is better to buy a product for this, rather then writing it". |
