Question Details Asked By Asked On
incidence of birth defects Harmonyhill 06/02/03
    Hello,

My great niece was born last week with downs syndrome. Seven years ago another great niece was born with TARS (thrombocytopenia absent radius syndrome). I have a total of eight great nieces and nephews (all born from my identical twin's children). Out of eight great nieces and nephews who are as genetically close to me as my own grandchildren will be, two out of eight have profound genetic defects.

Does this increase the likelyhood that more children with genetic disorders will be born to my sister's or my own children?

    Thanks,
    Harmonyhill
