After Boston on Fri. beat the Yanks on a rare blown save by utra-dependable closer Mariano Rivera .The Yanks beat up on Boston by a combined 25 -5 score over 2 games . Pedro Martinez got beaten like a drum yesterday losing to Mike Mussian 11-1 .On Saturday with Steven King ;a Sox fan in attendance; got to watch the plot line to his next horror novel unfold right before his eyes . The Yanks poured it on ;getting 9 runs in the first 2 innings .The Yankees sent all nine hitters up in the first, scoring five runs on three hits, two walks and a couple of Red Sox brain freezes. In one, Boston starter Derek Lowe, with Yankees on first and third, fielded a comebacker, looked the runner back to third base and then threw there:runner safe. Red Sox shortstop Orlando Cabrera, with the Yankees' John Olerud sliding hard at second, forced a throw to first that went awry, and the Yankees scored twice. The Yanks sent 10 men to the plate in the second while scoring four more runs on five more hits. The second batter in the inning, Ivan Rodriguez, knocked Lowe out of the game with a hard shot off Lowe's right shin. Hideki Matsui hit a chopper to first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz in the hole ... but no one covered first base. Reliever Terry Adams gave up back-to-back singles, threw a wild pitch, then gave up another single. He hit Miguel Cairo with the bases loaded, forcing in a run.
Now Boston is 4 1/2 games out . So maybe everybody got a little too carried away with this Red Sox resurgence. There are still 3 head to head games this weekend in Boston ,and even if they come in 2nd there is still the playoffs as they will probably be the wild card . But until they go to the series ;the curse of the Babe lives on . |
