PROBLEMS AND DISCRIMINATIONS IN OPENING A CHECKING ACCOUNT IN THE UNITED STATES cucciolone 12/31/04
I'm trying to open a checking account in the U.S.A.,but unfortunately every my effort was unsuccessfull so far,for the fact i haven't a SSN; i tried to use my old ITIN reporting my former U.S. postal address in California, but the problem is always the same. Some banks cheated me inviting me to submit an online application for a checking account; one of them, the ARMED FORCES BANK approved my online application and once i received their ducumentation in the mail i signed the signature card and other ducuments and returned them to the bank with my initial deposit. Once they received my application they said that my account was opened and provided me its routing and account number, but actually they didn't! In fact the new accounts clerk eventually told me that my account wasn't open, because her supervisor ordered her so! I was frustrated for it! Today a bank, exactly the NATIONAL INTERBANK told me that if i opened an account with them once that my identity was verified i couldn't access my account online because of my foreign status. It is really unfair!
Here is what they responded to me:

    "Dear Mr. Giuliano,

Simply print a paper application from the website and complete the appliation and submit it along with your completed W8 form. Please be aware, if we are able to verify your identity, you will not be able to access your account online because of the W8form."

    Thank you,

    Cheryl Thompson, CSR
    National Interbank

What do you suggest me to do? I can't stand these discriminations, only bacause i'm a non U.S.-resident foreigner. However i have permanent U.S. postal address in Montana for my convenience where i receive all my U.S. correspondence, that next is forwarded to Italy. I hope to receive some useful suggestions from you about how protect myself from bank discriminations. I will greatly appreciate them! By the way,i visited the U.S.A. and Billings,MT this year. It is a wonderful country!
I hope to hear from you soon!

    Thank you
    Happy New Year!
    Giuliano
