| The Perils of Pauline |

Recent events have shown that you really do need to know the law in Australia if you want to be a right wing politician. In the USA, all men are considered created equal, but in Australia, its definately right wing to say that all should be treated equally.
It isn't good enough to have supporters and the support of a significant part of the electorate, you also have to have card carrying members of the Party if you seek to exploit the benefits of contesting elections. What is even more interesting is the media comment that had she been a member of parliament in Queensland at the time, there wouldn't have been an issue regarding the status of her "Party"
Its interesting that Pauline has been convicted and incarcerated long after she ceased to be more than a figurehead, she has not personally won a seat when she contested elections as a candidate of her own party.
Its ironic that she has now been handed the opportunity to make a serious dent in the support of both major parties through the heavy handed sentence for electoral fraud. The lesson here, If you must make your right wing tendencies known, don't do it outside of the framework of the major parties or make sure you have some good lawyers checking on everything you do.. |
