I am in my mid-thirties now. Thinking back to the 3rd grade, I seem to remember them teaching me that the sun will eventually become a Red Giant, and when that happens, its expansion will make it reach out beyond the earth's orbit, effectively swallowing the earth and the two inner planets of our solar system.
