      Clarification/Follow-up by Laura on 08/08/06 2:14 am:
Actually the Bible does mention other people east of Eden in the land of Nod..Where did they come from? Adam and Eve had to be awfully busy to produce so many children so fast.. Since it seems from the wording that Cain took a wife from Nod and she bore children and their children married (other people)and bore children.

Genesis 15 But the LORD said to him, "Not so [e] ; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. 16 So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, [f] east of Eden.

17 Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.

Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born.
Adam and Eve had time to produce great great granchildren by them and branched out considerably as well.
Have any of you free thinkers considered if these people Cain was afraid of were not decendents of Adam they would they have no reason to kill him?
Of course this story is harder to believe than your religion which teaches we all decended from a rock 4.6 billion yeare ago.
