Hank there is no question that the US could pay the debt off easily but to what purpose. Did you buy your house in cash ? Some things are worth financing.

Tom: Come to think of it, I did pay cash for my house. Quite a sum but ... I hate debt and I don't need credit.

Hank,
What would I do with 100 acres in Yosemite? If the law allowed me to do anything I wanted?
1) Mineral mining.
2) Real estate development. Probably a hotel, golf courses. Shopping for the tourists. Mineral spa for the ladies and meterosexuals. Night-clubs, etc. Set up paid tours of the park, including a "safari" tour with animals that come up to your car.
3) Logging and lumber. There's money in them thar trees.
However, under the current regulations, the answer would have to be "not much".
How about you?
Elliot

Elliot: I would probably make it into an AFFORDABLE youth camp for underprivedged kids. That area is perhaps the most beautiful in America!
